Donovan von Martens is a musician and filmmaker based in Gothenburg, Sweden. As a bass player, he collaborates with musicians across Europe, focusing on improvisation-driven projects, spanning jazz, noise, free jazz, folk, ambient, and pop genres.
He is involved in projects with artists such as Lisa Ullén, Paul Jarret, Hannah Tolf, Malin Wättring, and groups like Lisen Rylander Löve Oceans, Hollow Ship and Levure Sauvage. In addition to his musical pursuits, he is a director and cinematographer, having worked on numerous art, music, and dance films with international artists and organizations, including Naoko Sakata, IlDance, Nils Berg Cinemascope, PARSE, and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
He values collaborative work, taking an active role in arranging and project management. His artistic practice emphasizes creating spaces where people from diverse backgrounds can meet, fostering dialogue and mutual challenge across cultural and language barriers.
